I've tried everything to get my neighbor to turn down the volume of the noise produced by their various outdoor activities. I've tried being polite and even begged for their cooperation so that my newborn baby (and I) could get some sleep - to no avail. Every request seems to be met by their turning the volume up even louder. What can I do?
Answer: Our Neighborhood Police Officer Chris Watts suggests the following:
1. If nothing can be accomplished by talking with the neighbor, Call 911 if the noise is too loud and/or disruptive any time of the day, especially after 10:00 p.m.
2. Talk to other neighbors and ask them to Call 911 if they are disturbed by the noise.

Has anyone whose house has been designated as being in the flood plain been able to find out how to get that designation removed?
Answer: The following item addresssing this question was distributed via the BHTTNA November newsletter.
This is the timeline of events which led to one family getting their home removed from FEMA’s flood plan designation.
May, 2010:
1. Received notification from mortgage company that home was in a flood plain and that this required the purchase of flood insurance.
2. Purchased flood insurance.
3. Paid $400 to land surveyor to provide an elevation certificate of lot. Survey showed property was above the elevation designated as a flood plain.
June 2010
4. Completed LOMA* form from FEMA* website.
5. Mailed form to FEMA with a copy of elevation certificate, Plat Map of subdivision with seal and recording information*, and FIRM* panel.
August 2010
6. Gave copy of elevation certificate to insurance company. Company reduced the insurance cost pending receipt of notification from FEMA that the property was officially removed from flood plain designation
7. Received FEMA response stating that property was officially removed from the flood plain.
8. Faxed FEMA response to mortgage company who dropped the requirement for flood insurance.
September 2010
9. Cancelled flood insurance and received refund of unused premiums
October 2010
10 Start investigating possibility of getting reimbursement from FEMA for survey and insurance cost.
* A Plat map must be obtained from the City of Fort Worth. Instructions on how to submit a request for a Letter of Map Amendment [LOMA] and obtain a flood insurance rate map (FIRM) can be accessed from the FEMA website at www.fema.gov/ . More detailed information about obtaining these documents will be on www.BHTTNA

Has anyone heard anything about when a well might be drilled on our gas lease? And why and who were the surveyors all around our neighborhood last week?
Answer: As luck would have it, BHTTNA wrote to Chesapeake in June asking them to send a speaker to one our meetings to answer questions regarding the gas lease. They agreed but the date is yet to be determined. Look for an August or September date and plan to attend. We'll probably move the meeting from the Coleman's home to a place that will accommodate more people.
Note: Meeting is August 13, Meeting place yet to be determined. Watch Home page, bulletin board, emails and signs for information. [7-11-09]
Surveyors: A neighbor questioned the surveyors that were in her block on Wednesday, July 1. The information was sketchy, but the surveyors are a subcontractor of Chesapeake's and are verifying property lines in preparation for further activity which may or may not include drilling. Watch the web site and emails from BHTTNA for more information about this and the meeting with Chesapeake.

Hi, a few weeks back a flyer was distributed around the neighborhood that had an ad for a business that sells
stuff on e-bay for those of us who have umpteen Barbies and model cars left to me by my father and are
totally clueless when it comes to computers, e-bay,etc. I was wondering if anyone had saved the flyer or
knows of someone who does. If so, would appreciate hearing about it. Thanks
Answer: This information emailed from a BHTTNA member:
The company's called EZ Bayer. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The back of our property is adjacent to the levee and the flume which is designed to drain water from the area is clogged with vines and trash from the neighborhood. We've tried to clear it ourselves but can't get the job done. Our concern is primarily that it fills with water and becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Who is responsible for maintaining this area? We called City of Fort Worth but they said it was not their "baby."
Answer: The Tarrant Regional Water District handles all things relating to the river and adjacent lands. Their web site is http://trwd.com. For general information, you can call 817-335-2491. BUT Richard Brownlee, 817-994-8805, is the person directly responsible for problems in our immediate river/levee area. Leave him a message about the problem you are having. He is frequently in or near our neighborhood and is very helpful. This information is also posted on our Important Numbers and Websites page

My neighbor has a habit of playing very loud, and to my ear - obnoxious - music outside almost every weekend and many evenings. It makes it impossible to sit out in the yard and enjoy these great spring afternoons. I've spoken to them but they seem to think it is my problem, not theirs. Is there anything else I can do?
Answer: If the behavior is truly disturbing to you and is more than just occasional, you can call the police non-emergency number (817-335-4222) and request that they ask the neighbors to keep down the noise. Sometimes, people just don't realize that they are being inconsiderate of their neighbors and have to be reminded. But if they simply don't "get it", perhaps the police can be more persuasive.

The list of sex offenders published in the Sat July 26 edition of the Star Telegram showed offenders at several addresses in our neighborhood. What should we do?
Answer: 8/1/08. Sex offenders on the list have been tried, served their sentences and are regularly reporting to the Texas Dept. of Public Safety. We must use this information wisely while respecting the civil rights of the persons in question. Educate your children about how to protect themselves; be vigilant about supervising them - even in your own front yard - and report any suspecious persons or activities to the police. We all know to call 9-1-1 in an emergency, but if you have questions or concerns that don't rise to that level, call the non-emergency number for the police at: 817-335-4222

Question: What can I do about a neighbor who turns their dog out every day to "do its business" on my yard? Dog poop is not something I enjoy cleaning up.
Answer 7/14/08: Presumably the neighbor has not responded to polite requests to take responsibility for the animal and you have experienced the frustration of being put on ( what seems to be permanent) HOLD at animal control when attempting to get some help from that source. So, what next?
Document the offensive behavior. Keep a written record of dates & times you observe the dog in your or some other neighbor's yard or in the street. If you can get a picture, preferrably dated, all the better, Then, call Animal Control, tell them what you have done and ask to be furnished with an affidavit form so you can submitt the documentation. It will need to be notarized, but based on this information, Animal Control can contact your neighbor and, maybe, get the problem solved. See Important Numbers and Links Page for telephone numbers etc.

Question: Does anyone have a clue about how much we can expect from a gas well if and when one is drilled and is in production? Answer 7/10/08: Not really, but try clicking on http://www.barnettshalenews.com. It started out as a free newsletter but now is subscription only. However you can still access the article 2008 Tarrant County Barnett Shale Revenue Estimate for Neighborhoods. Pull up the site, look on right hand side to click on article title. Remember - this is a very rough estimate. Don't go spending the money yet!

Question: Has everyone noticed the Chesapeake sign on Hwy 183 advising of an application to drill at that location? The printed notice in the Star Telegram June 13th gave the address as 153 State Hwy 183, and the permit was to apply for the drilling of three wells at that address.
In as much as this is within 2 miles of our neighborhood, does anyone know if our Chesapeake leases are connected to this site? Whatever......they're getting closer! If you hear anything, let us know. Answer 7/30/08:
[Received the following from Chesapeake July 30, 2008]
Subject: RE: FW: Burton Hill Trinity Trails Neighborhood Association Leases:
We do have a drillsite there. We recently submitted permits to the City of Westworth Village. Your minerals would not be developed from this location. Our average horizontal lateral is about 3,000-3,500 feet in length.
